18 Truths You Can't Avoid if You Want to Stay Relevant, Effective, and Connected

Lives are On the Line

People are depending on you. They depend on your organization.
Your mission is important.
With the world relying on you and your team, it is vital that you stay relevant, effective, and connected.
History is strewn with examples of organizations that failed or are struggling to respond to a changing world. Here are just a few:
  • Borders Books – digital and online changes killed their business
  • Blockbuster Video – same thing with digital and dvds in the mail
  • US Education System – poor results for many due to misalignment with current realities including non-agrarian civilization, increased need for knowledge workers, and out-of-school support required for extreme urban / suburban students.
  • Easter Island civilization – continued using wood past the time the supply could be regrown
  • Figure skating programs that aren't including quads for male skaters
  • Banking organizations that invested in bundled securities whose actual value could not be determined and which could not be sold
  • The Jedi Council when the Sith take over (just checking if you're still reading – but for you Star Wars fans, Yoda does ultimately realize he had been training Jedi for the past, not for the future. For everyone else: I promise no more Star Wars references for the rest of this post.)

IMPORTANT information regarding DNSChanger malware – SSO-AL2012-010

By admin On  · In News

21 March 2012

Software and platform affected
Windows (all versions)
Mac OS X (all versions)

What is the problem?

Malware which alters a computer’s DNS (Domain Name System) settings, known as “DNSChanger” malware, has been in circulation for some time. DNS is an Internet service which translates user-friendly domain names (e.g. ssoalertservice.net.au) into the numerical Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (e.g. 203.15.34.230) which are used by computers to communicate with each other. By infecting a victim’s computer with this type of malware, criminals are able to alter the DNS settings on a user’s computer. By controlling the DNS settings on victim’s computer, criminals force the infected computers to communicate with “bad” or “rogue” DNS servers, rather than legitimate “good” DNS servers. The criminals can then use these “bad” or “rogue” DNS servers to redirect the unsuspecting users to fraudulent websites or interfere with a user’s web browsing. For example, if a user’s computer is infected with the DNSChanger malware, and the user enters “google.com” in their web browser, rather than take the user to the legitimate “google.com” website, they would be taken to a fraudulent website instead.

Walmart Fails at Sustainability

10 Ways Walmart Fails at Sustainability

Photo from OpalMirror via flickr;

Since launching its sustainability program in 2005, Walmart has tried to position itself as a leader on corporate environmental responsibility. In frequent press announcements and annual “Global Responsibility” reports, Walmart touts its activities on renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste reduction, and product improvements.
While Walmart’s sustainability campaign has done wonders for its public image, it has done little for the environment. In fact, Walmart’s environmental impact has only grown over the last seven years. Its business practices remain highly polluting, while its relentless expansion and consolidation of the market have come at the expense of more sustainable enterprises and systems of production and distribution. Here are 10 ways Walmart is failing on sustainability:

The Problem with Plastic

Lightweight, Durable and Deadly

by Nancy Roberts  April 14, 2012  2:04 pm

Care2 Earth Month: Back to Basics

This year, Care2 decided to expand Earth Day into Earth Month, since there is so much to explore when it comes to the environment. Every day in April, we’ll have a post about some of the most important topics for the environment, exploring and explaining the basics. It’s a great tool to help you get started with helping the environment — or help explain it to others. See the whole series here.

No modern substance has insinuated itself into daily life more thoroughly than plastic. Made from oil and natural gas, containing toxic chemicals and confoundingly durable, plastic is everywhere, causing massive environmental damage and posing a health danger to people and other living things.

Cement industry in for re-rating as big projects gain momentum

Friday April 13, 2012

By CHOONG EN HAN

han@thestar.com.my

PETALING JAYA: The local cement industry is in for a re-rating due to the increasing demand for the building material when the construction of mega projects gains momentum.
Although there might still be a supply overhang in the industry, an analyst with a regional brokerage said demand would surge when the construction of the RM30bil My Rapid Transit (MRT) project kicked off.
The four major industry players may see the construction sector lapping up what they could produce as not only are the big players clamouring for the raw material, the local developers and contractors are also looking for supply.

The Destroyed Generations

4/10/2012 By: Atiya Islam
The present generation is critical because when it will be destroyed, no new generation will be established after us. There will be given no more respite to any new people. The only thing after this will be The Akhirah - The Day of Judgment.

The message of Allah has been sent to all previous generations through various Prophets. Whenever the transgression of generations exceeded, Allah destroyed them all because of their iniquities except a few whom he pleased. Allah sent Prophets after Prophets but there were always a large number of people who ridiculed the signs of Allah. Allah tells us in the Quran to reflect upon the stories of the old and to learn a lesson from their fate. The final result of their constant transgression was destruction. When punishment came to these sinners their only last utterance was: "Indeed we did wrong" (7:5). In the end they did cry for mercy but it was no longer time for being saved (38:3).
Surat number 7, Al-A'raf, tells us about some of these incidents that has taken place in the world. The whole Surat is logically built up and guides you step by step with information that will make you reflect. In the very beginning of this chapter we are being told that the Quran has been revealed to warn the ones who err and to teach the ones who believe. Further we are being introduced to the story of Adam and Eve in the garden and how Iblis made them disobey Allah and promised to seduce men and to misled them from the straight way. The consequences of it was that Allah made the earth a dwelling place for mankind and gave them a respite until the day of Judgment.

Shahrir Samad sets it straight for Bersih

…The message was so clear, crisp and deep that members of parliament in Dewan Rakyat, including Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, was dumbfounded.

It was Johor Bahru member of parliament Datuk Seri Shahrir Samad’s simple explanation as to why politicians and political parties should stop blaming the whole world if they are rejected by the electorate.

Shahrir, a seasoned BN elected representative, said politicians should stop fault finding and hurling all kinds of accusations against institutions like the Election Commission or the Police when it comes to elections…

6 biggest lies about food busted

The other day while I was making zucchini bread, I cracked an egg and dumped it right down the drain. Total mistake. (With a baby who still wakes up multiple times a night, I’m still a little sleep deprived.) There was a time, however, when I intentionally washed egg yolks down the drain—and used only the whites—because I thought that egg yolks were bad for my heart. Joyce Hendley tackles this food myth and 12 others in the September/October issue of EatingWell Magazine.
Here are the details of why you should go ahead and eat the yolks, plus highlights of other food myths that just won’t die.

MSG - A Slow Poison

MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavoring.' MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb.

He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government.  He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America.

16 Things I Wish They Had Taught Me in School

I am 28 now. I don't think about the past or regret things much these days.
But sometimes I wish that I had known some of things I have learned over the last few years a bit earlier. That perhaps there had been a self-improvement class in school. And in some ways there probably was.

Because some of these 16 things in this article a teacher probably spoke about in class. But I forgot about them or didn't pay attention.
Some of it would probably not have stuck in my mind anyway. Or just been too far outside my reality at the time for me to accept and use.

But I still think that taking a few hours from all those German language classes and use them for some personal development classes would have been a good idea. Perhaps for just an hour a week in high school. It would probably be useful for many students and on a larger scale quite helpful for society in general.
So here are 16 things I wish they had taught me in school (or I just would like to have known about earlier).

1. The 80/20 rule.
This is one of the best ways to make better use of your time. The 80/20 rule - also known as The Pareto Principle - basically says that 80 percent of the value you will receive will come from 20 percent of your activities.

So a lot of what you do is probably not as useful or even necessary to do as you may think.
You can just drop - or vastly decrease the time you spend on - a whole bunch of things.
And if you do that you will have more time and energy to spend on those things that really brings your value, happiness, fulfillment and so on.

Priest Retirement Dinner

A Priest was being honoured at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. A leading local VIP politician was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner..

However, he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited:

'I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place.

Food As Medicine

HEADACHE? EAT FISH!
Eat plenty of fish -- fish oil helps prevent headaches.
So does ginger, which reduces inflammation and pain.

HAY FEVER?
EAT YOGURT!
Eat lots of yogurt before pollen season.
Also-eat honey from your area (local region) daily

TO PREVENT STROKE DRINK TEA!
Prevent buildup of fatty deposits on artery walls with regular doses of tea. (actually, tea suppresses my appetite and keeps the pounds from invading....Green tea is great for our immune system)!

INSOMNIA (CAN'T SLEEP?) HONEY!
Use honey as a tranquilizer and sedative.

The man who knew it all

He was so busy explaining his ideas on how governments should run their countries and how leaders should address different problems that he did not bother to learn anything about sailing.

Ali was a philosopher who thought he knew all there was to know. Everyone agreed that he had a broad knowledge of the sciences and the arts, yet he insisted on bragging to one and all that he was the smartest man in town.

Ali's friend Sam was bothered by this arrogance and tried hard to make Ali see the world around him with open eyes. His arguments, however, were unproductive. After talking the matter over with a sailor he knew, Sam decided to encourage Ali to go on a sea voyage. Such a trip would show Ali other ways of life and expose him to difficulties that he would otherwise not experience. To his surprise, Ali liked the idea, and so the arrangements were made.

 By Lauren Howland, Planet Green

What’s the healthiest oil to cook with?
Almost everyone uses oil in some sort of meal. ...selling gold and buying farmland?

Why is George Soros selling gold and buying farmland?

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Mike Adams Natural News, Aug 15, 2011

Food prices are skyrocketing all across the globe, and there’s no end in sight. The United Nations says food inflation is currently at 30% a year, and the fast-eroding value of the dollar is causing food prices to appear even higher (in contrast to a weakening currency).

As the dollar drops in value due to runaway money printing at the Federal Reserve, the cost to import foods from other nations looks to double in just the next two years — and possibly every two years thereafter.
